A world of Precious Wings

Welcome to the world of Precious Wings! Here I will share my many stories of parrot and parakeet rescue. Some are joyful, some are heart-wrenching, some are funny, but all my stories have one thing in common.....HOPE. Most of my birds came to me from rescue situations, some were simply rehomes, and only one of my birds was a purchase. I decided against buying birds when I became aware of the many thousands of birds in desperate need of homes through no fault of their own. Some of these birds were the victims of horrible neglect and abuse, some of them just desperately needed a home because their owners simply could not keep them any more. If you ever consider taking in a parrot or parakeet as a pet, be sure to do LOTS of research first, they have many complex needs. If you decide a parrot is the friend for you, please, please look at rehoming, not at purchasing from a store or breeder. There are thousands upon thousands of wonderful birds living in rescues. The bird who is fortunate enough to find safety in a reputable rescue sanctuary, is one of the lucky ones. In a good sanctuary, the birds have attention, good food, good housing and lots of love from very experienced carers. However, rescue sanctuaries can and do become overwhelmed with birds, very often because of the ignorance or cruelty of the previous owners. People buy the wonderful creatures from pet stores, or breeders, and become bored and fed up with the noise and mess a bird can make. They want rid of their once much loved novelty, they can no longer be bothered. Sometimes, the bird has loving, devoted owners, who find themselves in a situation where it is just impossible to keep their beloved bird. And so, the bird ends up in a sanctuary. Sanctuaries can only hold so many birds of course, but every bird lovingly adopted FROM a sanctuary, leaves a space for the next needy one. If you adopt a bird, you are indeed helping TWO birds. the one you take lovingly into your life, and the one that now has a place available in the safety of the sanctuary. Help the birds in need....Don't breed, don't buy, ADOPT!!!!!
